Gemma Merna has admitted she can't be bothered to plan her wedding to Ian Minton.

The Hollyoaks beauty said that she and her fiancé probably won't tie the knot for a couple of years and that some of the novelty of her upcoming nuptials has worn off.

The actress, who plays dippy Carmel Valentine in the Channel 4 soap, told TV Biz: "I've not even started planning my wedding yet. We'll get married in the next couple of years. The novelty has worn off now!"

Ian popped the question to Gemma, 25, at the beginning of the year.

Talking about her plans for their big day, she added: "It will probably be a small do. I don't want it to be too manic, I just want to enjoy it.

"I've been so busy with working and sorting our house out but wedding dress shopping is the next thing I need to do."

She said that her Hollyoaks co-stars Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes) and Claire Cooper (Jacqui) have even started trying to force her to get organised for the bash.

Gemma exclaimed: "They've been trying to plan my wedding for ages but I can't be bothered. They'll end up getting married before me!"

Meanwhile, the blonde denied speculation that she will star on the next series of ITV1's Dancing On Ice.

She added: "I'm not going to be on Dancing On Ice. I'm concentrating on being in Hollyoaks at the moment and I'm too busy to do anything else."

Gemma is fronting a new campaign with Aviva to raise awareness of young people's reckless driving.

Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna has warned that viewers shouldn't expect a happy conclusion to her character's romance troubles.

The actress's alter ego Carmel McQueen tied the knot with her ongoing love interest Calvin Valentine (Ricky Whittle) in 2008, but cracks in their relationship soon began to show and led to a break-up this year.

In an interview with DS, Merna revealed: "Me and Ricky wish, we really wish [they'd get back together], because we absolutely love working together. We love the characters together.

"But there is something coming up where there's going to be a big, big heartache for Carmel and I think that's going to be the final straw. It'll be 'never again'."

Last year, the 25-year-old had admitted that she wanted to see Carmel and Calvin settling down to enjoy their marriage.

Speaking at the time, she added: "They are a popular couple and if you ask me they are the best in the show - but I guess I would say that."

Carmel is seen facing more trouble in spinoff Hollyoaks Later tonight as she ends up behind bars in London. The final episode airs at 9pm on E4.
